The planet Relkus was once a vibrant world full of life and happy inhabitants. Roughly three centuries ago, that all changed. Now, what is left of humanity struggles to survive both above and below ground. No one is quite sure what happened all those many years ago and they rarely have the time to care.
Erika Croix is a member of the Guard; a loose group of skilled and powerful people who have chosen to put themselves between the wild people and creatures on the surface and the remnants of humanity who live in the tunnels below. Upon returning from an assignment on the surface, Erika discovers her partner and lover, Taryn, went out on an assignment of her own several days prior and hasn't reported back despite the fact that she was expected back within a couple of days.
Erika sets out to search for Taryn and ends up finding much more than that for which she had bargained.

Desperate for the return of the one of a kind set of aces, Alatrius turns to a long-time friend, Talia Ryven for help. Talia, being born abnormal thanks to ancient, half understood magic cast by her parents whilst she was still in the womb, possesses a unique set of attributes and skills that lend themselves to the dirty work of hunting down a thief.
Unfortunately, things go awry and the simplicity of tracking down a single thief and stealing the cards back becomes a complicated mess. With Alatrius at her side, Talia will have to rely on every trick and skill she possesses as she embarks on the journey through lands both strange and familiar to reclaim the Aces of Aerano and rediscover their long lost secrets.
